Expect the middleware market to burgeon in the next five years, International Data Corporation (IDC) said in a report released yesterday. IDC expects worldwide middleware and business software revenues to leap by 255 per cent, from US$2.7 billion in 1999 to almost $9.7 billion in 2004.

Global IT spending is expected to grow rapidly over the next five years, from a projected US$1.4 trillion this year to over $2 trillion in 2003, according to the latest report from SPS (Strategic Planning Services)/Spectrum Economics, a US-based economic consulting firm. By 2005, worldwide spending for IT products and services will reach $2.6 trillion.
