Creative Labs closer to finalising channel

Creative Labs has managed to secure its NSW and Victorian distributors but is still yet to finalise national arrangements.
In NSW Alepine Peripherals and Pioneer Computers were named distributors while in Victoria Multimedia Technology, ACS Computers and Quality Technology Distribution have joined the Creative ranks.
"All these guys have their own particular niche. It's a good mix and will cover a very broad market," explained Nick Angelucci, managing director of Creative Labs. It was a condition of each contract that the distributors take "at least the majority, preferably the entire range of Creative products", he said.
The new model replaces the exclusive arrangement between Creative Technology and local distributor Creative Pacific.
Originally scheduled to announce its full channel makeup at its February 8 launch, Creative Labs, the local subsidiary of SoundBlaster manufacturer Creative Technology, is still negotiating terms with the larger disties.
"The bigger the distributor, the harder it is to knock them down. Everyone wants to know exactly how much money they're going to make on this deal," said Angelucci.
He could not say when final agreements would be reached, but said it was really only the "fine print that needed sorting out".
