Sage expands QLD horizons

Accounting software company Sage Australia is making an aggressive push into new markets both on and offline.
Keen to expand its Queensland operation, Sage has signed a reseller agreement with Brisbane-based Australia Corporation, a specialist in management information services.
"We have 140 resellers around Australia, but only four in Queensland," said Sage Distribution's managing director, John Marshall. "Queensland's very spread out, so we're keen to build our presence there."
Sage is also intent on conquering the online world and helping its resellers move into e-commerce. The company launched a dedicated business portal for reseller and end users at its Sydney Reseller Expo yesterday.
Sage has partnered with IBM to provide a Web hosting package, which offers end users up to five pages free using Instant Web Creator. Upgrades from that require Web Trader or Web Creator, which are sold for a monthly fee through Sage resellers.
The managing director of Australia Corporation, Ian Hutcheson, said Sage's e-commerce strategy would complement his company's work with management systems and wide area networks (WANs).
"It's perfect. We've started e-commerce work with some of our major clients, so Sage's Web hosting is a way for us to value add."
