ASP unit makes telco connection

While Com Tech recently wrapped up its Forum X conference in Queensland, the work is only just beginning for one of its newest divisions, Com Tech Central.
The applications hosting and application service provider (ASP) unit will tomorrow gain access to Optus facilities in central Sydney where it will build its new data centre over the next four to six weeks.
The move marks an undertaking by Com Tech Central to deliver customer integrated solutions that differ from traditional hosting services.
Guy Jacobson, Com Tech's ASP general manager, told ARN at Forum X that moving the data centre from its present location at Com Tech's Sydney headquarters to Optus gives the ASP a direct connection into the Internet backbone.
"We've outsourced (Internet connection) to Optus; we believe access is a telco business," Jacobson explained.
Com Tech chairman David Shein said the ASP business unit already has over eight paying customers and will rebrand the operation from Com Tech Central to Dimension Data Central over the next six to 12 months.
The rebranding is in line with Dimension Data's recent acquisition of the remaining 24 per cent of Com Tech.
