Harris hangs on to HP

HP has extended its online fulfilment contract with Harris Technology, while the vendor continues to work on the merger of its HP and Compaq online businesses.
Harris has been fulfilling HP's online sales for around two years, but the contract had been set to expire in mid-July, flaming speculation about HP taking the fulfillment back inhouse. Neither party would give a time frame for the extension that lasts “until further notice”.
HP’s head of Image and Printing group, Rebekah O’Flaherty, told ARN the vendor was still in the process of reviewing its online fulfilment, with the goal of “having an HP portal with the breadth and depth of HP product”.
While HP was looking at a “seamless transition” to the new merged online entity, O’Flaherty left the door open for a new fulfilment partner.
She said the planned consolidation of the Compaq and HP online offerings would "probably involve a partner or partners”.
But with back-end processes for the merged business - including ERP - not yet converged, “it’s not going to be next week,” O’Flaherty said.
While there was no formal time extension to the contract, Harris Technology was “quite comfortable in continuing” to fulfil the online orders indefinitely, managing director, David Foster, said.
“We’d expect some level of notice to be given,” he said.
