HP on lookout for new supplies distie

HP is on the lookout for a new consumables distributor for its Image and Printing (IPG) group, who will fill the hole left by the departure of Daisytek Australia.

About 10 wholesalers had been invited to bid for the contract, HP's general manager of IPG, Rebekah O'Flaherty, said.

HP hoped to have the new supplier on board by late August, she said.

The new distributor would have to be strong in supplying the large retail format that was the bulk of Daisytek’s business, O’Flaherty said. But she was keen to emphasise that the loss of Daisytek wasn’t the only reason HP was seeking a new distributor.

“Every two years the supply business does a very complete review of the channel,” O’Flaherty said.

She also admitted the timing of Daisytek’s move into voluntary administration “couldn’t have been worse”.

HP had wound down and eventually ceased trading with the ailing distributor, which has been in voluntary administration since May.

But IPG’s other distributors had “absorbed any big disruptions” caused by the loss of Daisytek, O’Flaherty said.

“We haven’t experienced any interruption to our supply line over the past couple of months," she said. "It’s an absolute credit to our distributors, Tech Pacific, Dynamic Supplies and Digiland.”
