IBM has applied more glue to its integration strategy, significantly expanding the number of pre-built adapters that connect its WebSphere Application Server 5.0 with various enterprise applications and hardware environments.
Recently, IBM unveiled 50 new WebSphere Business Integration Adapters and 300 updated adapters that were developed by both IBM and a number of its business partners.
Also launched at the company's New York headquarters by senior vice-president and group executive at IBM Software, Steve Mills, was Version 5.3 of WebSphere MQ Extended Security Edition.
The product is intended to offer corporate users a more consistent security policy across multiple messaging environments.
The new software allows users to more easily implement an end-to-end application-level data protection model and allow administrators to carry remote management of security policies on queues.
IBM also unveiled Lotus Workplace, described by company officials as "a new initiative for the next era in collaboration and human interaction."
The initiative combined the collaborative capabilities of Lotus Notes with select features of WebSphere Portal Framework to provide a more modular and extensible environment for delivering different collaborative capabilities, the company said.
The new adapters, available under IBM's new adapter pricing model, will be aimed at four vertical markets: health care, energy and utilities, automotive, and electronics.
IBM now claims it has the broadest set of Java Enterprise Edition 2.0 (J2EE) server adapters available. The new adapters are designed to replace the need for custom code in application integration projects.
IBM partners that helped develop the adapters include Attunity, Insevo, iWay, Neon Systems, New Era of Networks, and RAI.
Last month, IBM announced Lotus Workplace Messaging, the first product launched under the new initiative, a company spokesman said. The new adapters from IBM's business partners are available now with the new adapters being available on July 31. WebSphere MQ Extended Security Edition 5.3 is also available.
