NextDC partners with IPv6 provider to increase data centres' speed

Will give S1 users access to Hurricane Electric’s IPv4 and IPv6 network through 100GE, 10GE and GigE ports

NextDC has tapped internet service provider (ISP) Hurricane Electric to increase the speed of its Sydney data centre through a new point of presence (PoP) from the ISP.

The PoP has been described by NextDC as being able to improve fault tolerance, load balancing and congestion management in the S1 data centre and will give users access to Hurricane Electric’s IPv4 and IPv6 network through 100 gigabit ethernet (100GE), 10 gigabit ethernet (10GE) and one gigabit ethernet ports (GigE).

S1 users will also be able to exchange IP traffic with Hurricane Electric’s network, which has access to over 20,000 BGP (border gateway protocol) sessions with more than 7,500 networks through over 200 major exchange ports.

Adam Scully, chief sales officer at NextDC, said the collaboration with Hurricane Electric will help empower their data centre users.

This is Hurricane Electric's third in Sydney and fourth in Australia adding to Equinix's SY1, ME1 and Global Switch Sydney East.

The S1 data centre, which was opened in October 2013, has been certified by Uptime Institute as a Tier III facility for design and construction and a Tier III Gold facility for operational excellence, as well as being certified by NABERS as a 5-Star rated infrastructure facility for energy efficiency.
