National Archives of Australia searches for software and services providers

National Archives of Australia (NAA), the body that collects and preserves Australian Government records that reflect the country's history and identity, has flagged its plan to search for providers for a new Integrated end-to-end digital archival services.
The pre-release notice was published on the Australian Government tender website on 24 October.
According to the notice, the NAA is currently undertaking a phased, multi-year program to modernise its capabilities to embed secure digital end-to-end archival processes, excluding storage infrastructure.
In March 2016, the NAA was preparing to more than 15 million articles stored in its Canberra facility to a new warehouse, the ABC reported.
"Construction of the gigantic $64 million facility is already well underway, and the archives will collect the keys in November with the move to be completed by June next year," wrote the ABC at the time.
The NAA is seeking market responses for flexible and innovative "best-of-breed" software, services or other deliverables that can contribute to an Integrated Archival Management (IAM) system.
The IAM system would comprise integrated end-to-end solutions for digital ingest and preservation, archival control and management, through to discovery and access.
The National Archives is advising the industry and seeking proposals for end-to-end solutions which may comprise all of the archival functions, or one (or more) individual components.
Interested providers should take into consideration the potential need for integration between the proposed components, and the National Archives’ existing systems.
The NAA expects to publish a request for tender in mid-November.
