MS Business Solutions preps basic application packages

Microsoft is preparing new "standard editions" of its Great Plains, Navision and Solomon products to streamline its offerings for companies with up to 100 employees.
The new basic versions of the software, due out later this year, replaced existing entry-level products including Great Plains Standard Edition and Navision Standard Edition, a Microsoft Business Solutions spokesperson said.
"Microsoft Business Solutions is streamlining its lower mid-market offerings by introducing unified pricing, packaging, marketing and branding," she said.
Great Plains and Navision are software companies that were acquired by Microsoft in the past years as part of the company's move to enter the enterprise software market. Microsoft had talked about standardising packaging and pricing of the applications at its global partner conference in September last year, two months after it completed the Navision buy.
The standard editions were aimed at companies with up to 100 employees, under $US25 million in revenue and less than 10 licensed users, the spokesperson said. The applications were meant to help companies manage finances, customer relationships and inventories.
"Microsoft knows that there is a large segment of the market, namely the lower end of the mid-market, that remains underserved by ERP (enterprise resource planning) solution providers due to price points and complex functionality," she said.
