Bluechip signs with LG

Sydney-based Bluechip Infotech is targeting the mid-range to high end of the monitor and optical storage markets after signing a “business partner” deal with LG. It will add the products to its existing distribution rights with Acer and its exclusive Australian deal with Aopen.
“We talked to Samsung and LG but felt LG would be more suitable for us because Samsung sells to almost anyone,” Bluechip’s managing director, Johnson Hsiung, said.
“LG has been successful in developing its brand in the channel during the past two or three years because its consumer products have been successful. We are getting channel requests for its products.”
Hsiung said Bluechip would try to expand LG into new areas and claimed organisations using Mitsubishi Diamond View, Philips or ViewSonic in the mid-range to high end market would have no problem converting to LG.
LG account manager, Mario Casuscelli, said the “business partner” classification was similar to the role of a distributor except business partners did not have access to all products.
“The major attraction was optical storage,” Casuscelli said. “They [Bluechip] will compete against BenQ and get us into a market we couldn’t get into.”
