Harbour ISP names Adam Simpson as new CEO

The founder and CEO of internet service provider, Harbour ISP, Charles Tym, will retire from the day-to-day management of the business, as Harbour IT's former cloud services general manager, Adam Simpson, takes the helm.
While Simpson began his tenure with Harbour IT, from which Harbour ISP was subsequently spun out, in 2010, he was first hired by Tym in 1989. According to Tym, it has been "great" to watch Simpson's career progression from an engineer to CEO.
With more than 25 years' experience under his belt, Simpson’s credentials span technical, engineering, sales and management roles with a number of resellers, integrators and managed services providers.
He has also held IT management roles with companies such as Tower (now TAL), MBF and Bupa Australia.
In his prior role with Harbour IT, Simpson oversaw the creation and management of the managed services firm’s IT-as-a-Service offering.
“Adam knows that great infrastructure is key to delivering services, and he also has the depth of experience and expertise we were looking for in managing teams and people, and delivering high quality customer service,” Tym said.
Harbour ISP began its life as a subsidiary of Sydney-based managed services and cloud infrastructure company, Harbour IT, founded by Charles and Melissa Tym in 2001.
The Tyms subsequently established Harbour ISP in 2005 -- first trading as Harbour IT then then as Harbour Sat -- as a reseller and installer under the Government-subsidised Satellite Internet Australian Broadband Guarantee (ABG) scheme.
In 2015, Canon purchased a 50 per cent interest in Harbour IT, leaving Harbour ISP to be separated formally from Harbour IT.
Harbour ISP now operates independently but retains close ties with Harbour IT and all its trading partners.
Tym will still continue as a director of Harbour ISP, with the board of directors working with Simpson to guide the company’s overall direction and strategy.
Simpson said he was looking forward to leading an organisation that is small enough to have a direct influence on its clients’ outcomes and flexible enough for the business to evolve and grow quickly.
“Having worked for more than 25 years in the local IT industry, I’ve developed a lot of deep-seated relationships that I can call on to help me drive growth and build value added services on top of Harbour ISP’s core connectivity products,” Simpson said.
