Global security cloud service provider touches down in Australia

Global security cloud service provider, iland, has touched down in Australia, launching its services from a NEXTDC's S1 data centre in Sydney's Macquarie Park.
Specifically, the business will be bringing its secure and compliant hosting for infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), disaster recovery as-a-service (DRaaS) and backup as-a-service (BaaS) to the Australian marketplace.
After conducting extensive research into data centre providers, the US-based company settled with NEXTDC’s S1 data centre, which boasts a NABERS 4.5-star energy efficiency rating.
NEXTDC sales and marketing group executive, Adam Scully, said the partnership with iland was in line with its channel focus, offering opportunities for iland to expand local reach and gain new customers and partners by leveraging the NEXTDC ecosystem.
"More importantly, their presence at S1 will help to ensure that iland’s Australian customers’ data and applications are managed securely in Australia – with high resilience,” Scully said.
In addition, iland EMEA and APAC marketing director, Monica Brink, said the decision to expand into Australia was customer driven.
“With data sovereignty and security requirements, we have a number of global customers that require a cloud location in Australia for their expanding businesses,” Brink said. “Existing customer demand and the potential for future cloud growth within the country, drove our decision.”
Currently, iland is in the process of hiring staff on the ground, initially looking to fill technical and sales positions.
“As we ramp up, we’ll be looking for office space in Sydney,” she said. “The channel push is very important to us and we’re aiming to establish a couple of good strong channel partners in the first few months to be able to achieve growth.”
First established in 1995, iland has headquarters in the US and UK, and delivers services from data centres throughout the US, Europe and Asia, partnering with Veeam and Zerto to deliver cloud back-up and DRaaS solutions.
Brink said its joint value propositions with those technology partners was fairly valuable to its managed service providers and resellers in both the US and UK, and it hopes to replicate that in the Australian market.
“Veeam and Zerto are also experiencing strong growth in Australia as well,” she said.
“I think the opportunity to take those combined offerings and being able to resell or package them with other services, is a real opportunity for Australian channel partners and we’ve had success in helping them take advantage of that opportunity in the US and UK, and we’re hoping to mirror that in Australia.”
According to Brink, iland will also bring its channel program to the market for resellers and managed service providers.
The program involves three areas where partners can refer a customer to iland and receive recurring commissions; resell iland’s services; or the ability to include iland’s platform as part of a larger service offering.
Delving deeper, iland’s secure cloud platform is built on VMware vCloud virtualisation and its cloud services can be monitored and managed through the iland Secure Cloud Console, which provides visibility and management features across billing, performance, security, compliance, testing and reporting.
The iland cloud platform is fully certified and compliant with industry regulations including ISO 27001, SOC 2, ITIL, HIPAA, G-Cloud and CSA STAR.
