Optus Business extends telco and managed services deal with EnergyAustralia

Optus Business has inked a new, five-year telecommunications and managed services agreement with energy retailer, EnergyAustralia, building on an already existing relationship forged by the companies.

This expanded agreement will see Optus Business provide EnergyAustralia with security, data centre, contact centre and mobile management services, while continuing to provide it with a range of voice, data and expanded managed services.

The move follows recent Optus Business announcements, with the company inking a $2.3 million revitalisation project of the South West TAFE, teaming up with Pure Storage to launch one of Australia’s first all-flash storage platforms, and forging a new five-year deal with Australian aged care and community service provider, Uniting.

Optus Business managing director, John Paitaridis, said the agreement supports EnergyAustralia’s telecommunications requirements, in meeting the energy needs of more than 2.6 million customer accounts across eastern Australia, alongside the operation of an energy portfolio, including coal, gas and wind generation assets.

“We’re approaching our new and expanded relationship as an opportunity to provide ICT capabilities to support EnergyAustralia’s business and transformation objectives, particularly delivery of its customer-focused strategy,” he said.

EnergyAustralia chief information officer, Anne Weatherston, said Optus Business is a “strategic partner” for the company, as it moves towards consolidating its IT platforms.

“Our new multi-year agreement is an important relationship and we’re excited to grow our partnership,” she added.

Weatherston also mentioned that the new services selected by EnergyAustralia will be live in the first half of 2017, with Optus Business continuing to work on a number of initiatives supporting the energy provider’s transformation.
