Optus has signed a distribution deal with regional distributor, NAS Australia, to push its SatSleeve product range into regional and remote parts of Australia.
NAS is an Australian owned and operated wholesale distributor of television, satellite reception and distribution equipment, which covers metropolitan and regional areas. This deal extends its existing relationship with the telco, having distributed its previous Aurora and current Viewer Access Satellite Television (VAST) Set Top Box and associated satellite dish products.
Optus Satellite vice-president, Paul Sheridan, said the relationship will give regional customers immediate access to the telco’s technology and will help them stay in touch in remote locations.
“Satellite communication is now accessible to everyone, from travellers to farmers, and through NAS’ extensive reach into regional and remote parts of Australia, and access to the extensive customer base of VAST end-users, we can now deliver communication solutions to more parts of Australia than ever before,” he said.
NAS managing director, John Kimbell, said the company was proud to work with Optus Satellite to expand remote and regional distribution of the SatSleeve.
“Our partnership with Optus Satellite dates back to the Optus Aurora project in 1998 and has been highly regarded by the NAS team for close to two decades,” he added.
“We look forward to the continuation of our mutually beneficial relationship with Australia’s leading satellite provider.”
The SatSleeve product was launched in 2013 and was an early entrant with BYOD in the satellite industry. The product brings voice, SMS and data services with the sleeve, providing there is a direct line of sight between the device and the satellite.
The new SatSleeve models use Wi-Fi rather than Bluetooth to connect with the smartphone and are controlled through a Hotspot app.
