Samsung teases curved Galaxy flagship in Unpacked invites

A curved variant of Samsung’s upcoming flagship is expected to be announced as the company strives to retain dominance in the competitive smartphone market.
Samsung has a history of revealing its flagship smartphones at its Samsung Unpacked event, usually just ahead of the Mobile World Congress.
This year’s Mobile World Congress will start on 2 March in Barcelona. It comes as no surprise then that Samsung has issued invitations to its Unpacked event one day before on 1 March.
The invitations hint the next-generation Samsung flagship will have a curved screen. similar to that featured on the expensive Galaxy Note Edge. The wraparound screen on the Note Edge is used to stream notifications and house custom widgets.
Odds are Samsung would release two variants of its Galaxy S6, one with and another without a curved screen, just as the company did with its range of Note phablets.
Recent smartphones from Samsung have used metal for the chassis, such as its Galaxy Alpha and Note range. Metal is expected to be used for the chassis in the upcoming flagship following criticism levelled at the plastic-laden Galaxy S5.
Declining market share, owed to an increase in competition at both the low-end and premium-end of the smartphone market, has placed great significance on the next flagship from Samsung. The company revealed earnings from its mobile division plunged 64 per cent annually over the October-December period.
