Oracle rebrands Net-based business

Enterprise software giant Oracle has rebranded its local Internet Sales Division as Oracle Direct and plans to hire more call centre staff to drive sales of Oracle product.
While many vendors are closing down or moving their research and development efforts offshore, Oracle is hiring additional call centre staff and Internet sales consultants to boost its local presence.
While the Oracle Direct ticket is likely to prick up a few ears in the software channel, Oracle's director of business partners, Leigh Warren, said the vendor's increased presence does not necessarily equate to more direct sales and less partner involvement.
Oracle Direct, he explained, is the Internet-based sales and lead-generation arm of Oracle that works alongside both the vendor's direct sales force and its channel partners.
The division engages in outbound telemarketing and e-mail marketing campaigns to drive sales, and also acts as a central repository for all leads gained through potential customers contacting Oracle. "Often this information is passed on to our partners to follow up," Warren said.
Partners are also, under certain circumstances, permitted to work alongside Oracle Direct to run their own outbound campaigns as joint marketing exercises with the vendor, he said.
