Ipex introduces McData to mid-market

Storage networking vendor McData has enlisted the help of Ipex in an effort to crack the mid and entry-level markets with its products, awarding the local integrator with Elite Systems Integrator Partner status.
As McData's first Australian channel partner, Ipex will offer its customers a range of McData storage networking products, either as part of a bundle or as a standalone product, and will also provide implementation, support and services.
Ipex will also become the exclusive distributor of McData's SAN infrastructure software, SANavigator, in Australia as part of the agreement. Ipex technical director Yaron Schwalb said the integrator will begin appointing reseller partners shortly and will target the product at corporate dealers or resellers that have corporate customers with mission-critical IT environments.
Ipex's appointment is the first time McData has employed the Australian reseller channel. McData traditionally focused on the top end of the market and sold its products in Australia through OEM partners, which re-badged the products.
According to Schwalb, it was McData's FlexPort technology that cemented Ipex's decision to add the vendor's products to its portfolio.
"The FlexPort technology in McData's switches means that users can buy a flexible switch that can be boosted from an 8-port to a 24-port switch at a minimum cost. As companies grow, they require more ports on their switches to attach more hardware. So FlexPort builds longevity into the switch without the customer having to pay the price of a 24-port switch," Schwalb said.
