AWS Glacier and Redshift go live in Sydney Region

Cloud computing platform, Amazon Web Services (AWS), has made its Glacier and Redshift services available from the Sydney Region.
AWS launched its Sydney Region in November last year. Since, its customer base in Australia and New Zealand (A/NZ) has surpassed 14,000 users.
Amazon Glacier is a storage service designed for data archiving and backup in the Cloud. It intends to address the challenges organisations commonly face with traditional, on-premise datacentres. This includes over-paying for data archiving capacity which is under-utilised but resource intensive and costly to maintain. The service is available on a ‘per gigabyte per month’ pricing model.
The Amazon Redshift service is a fully-managed, petabyte-scale data warehouse service in the Cloud. It aims to eliminate the need for organisations to rely on skilled external consultants while promising to reduce capital and operational costs.
The solution can be used to automate tasks associated with provisioning, configuring, monitoring, backing up, scaling, and securing a data warehouse.
Both services require no upfront capital commitments. AWS claims organisations can scale their usage both up and down when needed.
