Kogan becoming even cheaper: Credit Suisse

Although there are slight improvements in retail giants’ JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, and Dick Smith Electronics’ (DSE) price competitiveness, their price differentials to Kogan are increasing, according to Credit Suisse’s consumer electronics price indices.
The indices monitor prices across a range of consumer electronics product categories for a sample of Australian international retailers.
In general, Credit Suisse said that “prices have stabilised following selective discounting in December,” and expects gross margins to have improved year-on-year.
DSE performed somewhat of a price hike back to its December 2012 status following a Christmas drop. Harvey Norman had a smaller increase, while both Harvey Norman and Kogan appear to be continuing the price festivities.
Other observations show a decline in accessories prices (an annualised deflation rate of 22 per cent) and a small growth in camera (18 per cent annualised deflation) and MP3 (22 per cent annualised deflation) prices since Christmas which have now stabilised.
