Electronic Arts' smartphone hit, Plant Vs. Zombies, can be found in LG's Game World launch line-up
LG is one step closer in challenging the domination of dedicated video game consoles with the introduction of its new Smart TV game portal, Game World.
While games have already been available on Smart TVs in one shape or form for some time, this marks the vendor’s first attempt at bringing a dedicated and integrated approach to gaming to its Smart TVs.
80 launch titles have been announced for Game World, and they can be played using either LG’s proprietary Magic Remote or one of the compatible game controllers from Logitech or Microsoft’s own Xbox 360 game pad.
LG content and services senior marketing manager, Brad Reed, says Game World will not only harness the 3D capabilities of its Smart TVs, but also help expand the vendor’s Smart TV offering in the market
“Game World is an excellent and easy to use source for games, especially 3D games, which are suitable for all the family,” he said.
Reed says Game World will host some of the most popular gaming titles on compatible LG Cinema 3D Smart TVs, such as Chillingo’s Cut the Rope and Electronic Arts’ Plants vs. Zombies already making the jump from smartphones to the Smart TV platform.
Out of the 80 games already available, ten of the games will support 3D.
Game World is available now on all of LG’s LCD Smart TVs from 2012, and Reed says the platform will soon be made available on the 2012 range of plasma TV models.
Owners with compatible LG Smart TV models will be automatically prompted to upgrade the device software when it connects to the Internet.
