NuSkope enters national ADSL market

A new provider in the national ADSL market, NuSkope, has kicked off its entry to the big league with a bundle offering a free Wi-Fi router and double servings of data to celebrate its move across from wireless to cable delivery.
NuSkope is offering an entry-level hardware bundle with a free Billion BiPAC 7700N Wi-Fi router modem. For higher level packages they are offering the newly released Billion BiPAC 7800VDPX or the AVM FRITZ!Box 7270 at $69 on 12- and 24-month contracts.
Other modems are provided at greatly reduced prices, including the AVM FRITZ!Box 7390 for $99.
The launch special is a promotional offer of more than double the data for signing up before the end of this year – and members get to keep that deal for the duration of their contract. NuSkope’s key plans are $39.95 for 50 GB and $49.95 for 200GB.
“We are pitching plans for people wanting good value and reliable service and we are targeting the important family and student market where we have done so much work with black spot fixes,” Operations Manager, Michael Blake, said.
Generous ‘shaping’ for customers who exceed their download quota will enhance NuSkope’s offers.
“We will shape to 512k compared with most ISP’s who shape as low as 64k and we will allow customers to upgrade plans with a minimum of fuss,” Blake said.
“Our five years working face-to-face with customers in the suburbs gives us a feel for what people really want with connecting to the net and we aim to keep things friendly and personal.
“When you are bolting on receivers to household rooftops or hanging from apartment buildings in the CBD you are in the front line of service delivery and not sitting in some anonymous call centre.”
With services across South Australia, NuSkope has built up a quality reputation among broadband customers.
The company said it will apply the same dedication to its ADSL2+ and NBN product range Australia-wide.
New to ADSL… but not a ‘new’ ISP
While they’re a new provider in the national ADSL market, NuSkope, had its beginnings more than a decade ago with two teenage internet gamers building their own wireless connection across Adelaide to overcome a personal black spot area.
Schoolmates Michael Blake and Adam Barszcz were so successful with their experiment in 1999 that their neighbors demanded the same service – and so a business was born.
By 2002, they had sites connected across 25km in Adelaide and registered as an ISP. In 2005 they formed ACMNET with about 100 customers.
Blake and Barszcz went full time into the business in 2007 establishing NuSkope as a specialist wireless networking provider.
With little advertising budget, their growth developed by positive word of mouth and support from technical blog forums (like Whirlpool.net.au) as they delivered fast broadband to poorly serviced areas of metro Adelaide in black spots.
Today, NuSkope Internet has about 80 per cent saturation at Mawson Lakes, one of Adelaide’s fastest growing suburbs, particularly with apartment buildings where multiple users are able to access the same wireless receiver unit.
NuSkope also has its own data centre built in 2007 and offers services (including NBN) backed by Nextgen and Pipe Networks.
