Advantech Australia has released its new firewall range, the FWA-200 series. Designed to provide maximum protection against intrusion, the FWA-200 series is aimed at SOHO and SMB businesses. It combines performance with low power consumption, thanks to an Intel Celeron 566MHz processor, supporting up to 256MB SDRAM. It uses CompactFlash for the installation of OS and firewall applications and has a built-in cover so the SDRAM and CompactFlash card can be easily accessed in the case of software upgrades. The FWA-200 series is designed with the plug-and-serve concept in mind, according to Advantech. It features three 10/100Mbps auto-sensing Ethernet ports in its front panel for WAN, LAN and DMZ connections, while seven LED indicators on the front panel display the status of monitor power, LAN activities and LAN link speed. It also features a 9-pin RS-232 serial port for local system management, maintenance and diagnostics. The FWA-230 model comes with pre-installed Linux OS and inactive next-generation version VPN-1/FireWall-1 software from Check Point Software. The series starts at $1,083 and is available immediately.
