The role was previously occupied by Tim Cavill, who has now stepped out of the IT industry and become the regional general manager for International SOS.
Makryllos said it he spotted a great opportunity to join the company. He left APC in May after spending five years with the vendor. He has also previously worked for Telstra, IBM, HP, Siemens and PictureTel.
“Orange has a huge advantage in the cloud computing space, given their global footprint,” Makryllos said. “It’s all very attractive to me and based on the trends I was seeing in the datacentre space, having a global network communication is going to be important in connecting all these clouds.”
Some of his focus areas include its cloud computing services, video offerings, customer contact solutions and security services. He’ll also be looking to work with Australian companies that are expanding in the region and require more effective communication along with global companies that operate within Australia.
In Australia, Orange has more than 200 employees and has a presence in 220 countries. It offers communication services, cloud computing, enterprise mobility, security and unified communications, and maintains a global partnership with Cisco.
