Optus releases cloud backup service

Telco is offering a starter pack of Optus Smart Safe to prepaid, postpaid consumers and SMB mobile users

Optus customers can now backup their mobile, PC and laptop content through a new cloud storage service.

Optus Smart Safe, developed by the telco’s partner company, F-Secure, is free to use for prepaid, postpaid consumer and SMB mobile customers. Fixed-broadband customers will have to wait a few more months.

The free starter package contains 500MB of cloud storage. Service is managed through the MyZoo web portal for customers. Users can adjust the settings so backup is perform every time a change has been made on a given device.

“Using the cloud to create innovative and compelling offerings for customers is something we’ve been working towards for a long time,” Optus digital media director, Austin Bryan, said in a statement. “We’re happy to be bringing Optus Smart Safe to our customers – which is the first of many new exciting consumer offerings we’ll be launching in the digital space in the coming months.”

Additional storage capacity can be purchased starting from $5.99 per month for a 10GB Smart Safe storage.
