AAPT to supply CHOGM network

Telco AAPT will implement and manage a communications network for the 16th biennial Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) to be held in Brisbane later this week.
The AAPT managed network service will provide up to 5000 CHOGM organisers, volunteers, media and visiting delegates with a wide area network (WAN) for communicating and coordinating all activities, as well as providing delegates with Internet access from their hotels and the event.
Paul Lane, AAPT's group director of business, said CHOGM needed guaranteed speed, reliability and security to manage communications.
This was particularly true in light of the recent terrorist attacks in the US, he said, with the event bringing together almost one-third of the world's leaders.
CHOGM spokesman Andrew Reynolds said support from the private sector is expected to ensure the event is a success.
CHOGM 2001 will be held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre from October 6-9 and will be hosted by Prime Minister John Howard.
