15,000 Telstra landlines are down after Cyclone Yasi pulverised North Queensland.
The telco previously reported 5000 fixed line phones were not operational and 25 mobile towers were down.
The number has now escalated to 15,000 and 60, respectively.
Telstra’s mobile phone network is still operational despite the ordeal due to overlapping coverage on impacted sites.
“In addition to network outages, we expect individual service faults to be much higher across the region as customers return home and to their businesses,” Telstra said in a statement.
More than 450 network sites have been affected by a mains power outage and are running on backup power.
Two hundred technicians are on the ground but cannot access some locations due to damaged powerlines and debris.
Optus and Vodafone networks are also experiencing outages.
