Avnet places strong emphasis on services

Avnet Technology Solutions Asia Pacific president, KP Tang, said even though it already does provide some services, it was only just scratching the surface and noted that there was further potential to enhance its offerings, especially since the acquisition of itX.
“Services will be one of the major new focus areas, which is where itX already has a head-start," Tang said. "We want to build our service business all over Asia and globally. This particular merger will enable us to speed up the whole development."
Tang said the combined organisation would also be a springboard to take skills, knowledge and relationships in Australia and bring it across into other parts of Asia.
“It’s a very skilled, mature team that we have acquired," Tang said. “The key to us is people, to recruit, train, develop, motivate, and transfer skills, those are the biggest challenge we’re facing.”
Tang said it had a lot to learn from the itX business, and highlighted some of the complementary aspects between the two such as Avnet’s global focus on the health market, which sits in well with itX’s purchase of specialist health supplier, Sydmed in May last year.
Avnet Partner Solutions A/NZ vice-president and general manager, Laurie Sellers, said both companies have integration services, which it could build on. This week, the distributor announced its new local management line up.
“Avnet has an excellent facility for integration, far superior to the one that we have in itX now, so we can leverage off that as well,” Sellers said. “We’ll also look at other services that we can offer through the reseller channel, like financial services for example.”
Avnet Technology Solutions global president, Philip Gallagher, said Asia Pacific was important region, and it would continue to invest in the area.
More than 50 per cent of Avnet’s revenues derive from outside of the US, Gallagher highlighted.
