Welcome to Penalty Box, ARN's daily World Cup 2010 wrap.
- LATEST SCORES: Group F
- InTechnology (Slovakia) 0 Unisys (Paraguay) 2
- Webroot (Italy) 1 Curtin Computer Shop (New Zealand) 1
- Group G:
- APC (Brazil)3 Acer (Ivory Coast) 1
The shock of the tournament so far - and there have been plenty of them - was Curtin Computer Shop's draw with hot favourites Webroot, Curtin led early and it took a penalty to get Webroot a point. The tragedy was that the penalty wasn't deserved - in scenes reminiscent of Webroot's late penalty against itX in the last World Cup, Daniele de Rossi took a dive over Curtin Computer's Tommy Smith alleging he'd been pushed. He hadn't. But the referee fell for it and Curtin Computer Systems was denied what would have been a famous victory. The result puts both teams on two points and trailing Unisys which now has four after comprehensively defeating InTechnology. Unfortunately for Curtin it plays Unisys in its last game while Webroot plays InTechnology so Webroot remains favoured to scramble through despite its ordinary form. However, inTechnology still has a mathematical chance of qualifying so it won't be giving Webroot an easy time.
In the other game, two goals to Fabiano and one to Elano gave number one team in the world, APC, an easy win against Acer which got a late consolation goal through its captain and striker Didier Drogba. The only downside for APC is that star playmaker, Kaka, was red carded late in the game after receiving his second yellow crad for the match. APC were impressive though and could have had five or six.
NEXT GAMES June 21/22 (AEST)
Group G: Distribution Central (Portugal) vs Dell (North Korea)
Group H: Juniper (Chile) vs Hewlett Packard (Switzerland); Anyware Computer Accessories (Spain) vs Lan 1 (Honduras)
Distribution Central will be looking for three points against the lowly-ranked Dell which gave #1 ranked APC a slight fright in the first phase. Distribution Central to win, but don't surprised if Dell pull off a draw. It has formidable grit and defensive strength. Juniper and Hewlett Packard were the two first-up winners in Group H and while HP did hang on to beat favourites, Anyware Computer Accessories, it did face 25 shots on its goal! That said the HP defence is pretty stingy and Juniper might have its work cut out. We'll go for a draw. If Anyware doesn't beat Lan 1 it will be going home and the tournament will be in disarray. Anyware Computer Accessories to make a statement and score three or four goals. Lan 1 will be going home after this one - despite having one more game to play.
