Former Sun employees help establish local presence for search vendor

IT search software provider, Splunk, has appointed its first Australia and New Zealand regional manager, Daniel Miller. He previously worked for Frontline Systems, Sun Microsystems, Tech Pacific and itX.
Splunk enables companies to search, analyse and monitor live data across the IT network. It is available as a free download tool from the company’s website. There’s also an enterprise edition that contains extra features and organisations can index the amount of data required. Pricing is based on the volume of data being indexed per day.
Miller will be based in Melbourne and is focused on building the company’s channel model. He will also be responsible for sales, marketing, education and training.
Former Sun employee, Brett Matthews, has also been appointed as technical lead for the region.
“Being a relatively small organisation on the ground, we absolutely need to partner in order to maximise our ability to respond to the interest that comes when someone downloads the technology,” Miller said. “We find that our free download model tends to generate a lot of leads and opportunities.”
The ideal reseller network would have a specific focus and capabilities within security, compliance and applications. Splunk has a premium program for partners offering additional discount for registering deals and pre-sales support.
The vendor has two distributors in the market including Digital Networks Australia and M.Tech.
Partners include Remora Technologies and Bracom Consulting.
Miller said it was in discussions with Frontline Systems and O2 Networks as potential partners. Customers in the Australian market include Singtel Optus, Ericsson, Monash University, the Department of Health and Human Services Tasmania, Raytheon and Lloyds International.
“Ideally, we would like to have a small number of focused partners that are capable of delivering sales and pre-sales,” he said. “We’re looking for partners that want to invest in a services capability.”
“Australia is a really important region for us, and part of what makes the partnership model viable is the ability to build on Splunk,” the vendor's senior director of product marketing, Sanjay Mehta, said.
