NBNco appoints head of construction

NBN company recruits Service Stream founder and engineering whiz, Patrick Flannigan

NBNco has appointed industry veteran, Patrick Flannigan, as head of construction. He will be tasked with overseeing all construction of network infrastructure connecting the National Broadband Network (NBN).

Flannigan was the founder of Service Stream, an ASX-listed industrial services organisation providing outsourcing, field force management, technical support and asset management services to organisations within the telecommunications and utilities sectors. His resume also includes stints as founder and chairman of Integrated Maintenance Services and general manager of Skilled Engineering.

Flannigan will be based in Melbourne and reports directly to NBNco executive chairman and CEO, Mike Quigley. In a statement, Quigley said Flannigan’s expertise in engineering and construction was critical to building a successful NBN.

Flannigan is one of a host of appointments made to the NBNco team. In October, the organisation brought on Gary McLaren as its CTO, as well as former Optus network managing director, Steven Christian, to oversee network operations. In September, it appointed Christie Bryce, Kevin Brown and Tim Smeallie to its board.

The NBNco is also calling for more suppliers wanting to participate in the rollout to submit capability statements through its website.
