The d2 Network supports up to 1TB of storage on a single hard drive and has a fanless design. The NAS device is designed to work with PCs, Macs and Linux platforms, and is Time Machine compatible. It is capable of handling 15 active users at the same time and a maximum of 50 users. The d2 has both a USB 2.0 port and an eSATA connection. Automatic scheduled BitTorrent downloading and UPnP-AV compatibility are built-in and network administrators can use the Wake-on- LAN feature to turn the NAS device on remotely. Automatic email notifications can also be sent to administrators when the LaCie d2 Network completes downloads, gets too hot or suffers from disk damage. The device can be accessed via Web browsers for easier settings changing. It is also iTunes and DLNA compatible. The aluminium body can be stood at an upright or vertical angle, to allow for easier stacking, while the chassis design acts as a heat sink. The d2 can be rackmountable using 19-inch rack assemblies, and connects to routers and computers using a gigabit Ethernet port to the rear, next to a lock slot for securing the case. The drive is bundled with Genie Backup Manager Pro, Intego Backup Manager Pro and LaCie Network Assistant software and measures 173mm x 160mm x 44mm and weighs 1.5kg.
