David Sykes takes on McAfee role

Former Symantec MD appointed head of strategic accounts and alliances at McAfee

Symantec’s former local managing director, David Sykes, has joined rival security vendor, McAfee.

Sykes will take charge of strategic accounts and alliances in Asia-Pacific.

He quit his post suddenly in late 2007 and was replaced by Craig Scroggie after a difficult 12 months for Symantec.

McAfee regional director, Andrew Littleproud, said since Sykes left Symantec he had worked as an independent consultant for foreign companies wanting to do business in Australia.

According to McAfee, Sykes will be responsible for building relationships with system integrators, managed service providers and end-user accounts.

McAfee has also appointed David Elliot as its new partner sales manager in A/NZ. Elliot has previously worked at EMC, Alteon and 3Com.

McAfee recently sought out and signed a three-year distribution deal with Manaccom worth more than $25 million.
