Altech and Lexmark have become partners

Altech has formed a partnership with Lexmark, expanding its printer ranks to three.

Altech managing director, Antony Sheen, said the Lexmark range offered the distributor something a little different to its other two vendors, Samsung and Kyocera.

“Lexmark has a number of multi-function devices and higher-end range of products that offer things we didn’t really have access too previously,” Sheen said. “I expect very little overlap between our vendors – I wasn’t looking to create competition and we’re not looking for further vendors at this stage.”

Sheen said the two companies would work closely on events and creating sales opportunities, with Lexmark also appointing a dedicated account manager, Maria Fadel, to oversee the partnership.

Altech joins Ingram Micro and Cellnet as the primary distributors of Lexmark’s hardware. Lexmark general manager of channel and emerging accounts, Carmel Mosser, said there was little expected cannibalising of margins from bringing on a third distributor.

“We felt our inkjet line of hardware was under-distributed and not getting the reach we’d like. We needed a distributor to target the SME with that series of products. We’re looking to gain incremental revenue from this appointment,” Mosser said.

“This is the first new distributor appointment for us in a number of years, and we won’t be looking to appoint any more.”
