3Com has teamed with 24/7 Distribution
Networking vendor, 3Com, has teamed with 24/7 Distribution as part of a review of its channel program.
3Com country manager, Grant Howe, said the vendor had approached a number of distributors and selected 24/7 as the best fit for its goals.
"We found 24/7 to be a young, energetic, sales-oriented distributor, which is especially strong in the services business," Howe said. "They have a good level of engagement with customers and can provide tech services and end-to-end solutions, which is a big positive for us."
The vendor is also represented by Ingram Micro and had been represented by Westcon Group, but the two parted ways in August. Although some competition is expected between the two distributors, 3Com is comfortable with the new model, Howe said.
"A little bit of competition is good. Though you don't want competition over individual opportunities, we still have a strong relationship with Ingram Micro and the capacity to support both on a project-by-project basis," he said.
24/7 managing director, Tony Geagea, said 3Com had a strong brand.
“As a services-based distributor, this fills gaps in our product range, such as in security and routing,” Geagea said. “There is some crossover but 3Com provides such a broad portfolio with an enormous product range, and each of our vendors has its own strength – we don’t anticipate too much of a clash in our portfolio.”
He said 24/7 would continue to look at opportunities to grow and form partnerships with other vendors, but for now it was focused on helping 3Com achieve its aggressive growth plans.
3Com's immediate plans with 24/7 will be to team up in offering resellers and customers a demonstration centre.
"24/7 is about to launch a lab that we're working to co-brand in order to showcase some of our solutions. Beyond that we'll also be supporting them in normal business engagements," Howe said.
