The Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) has introduced a new membership category for individual members.
SNIA A/NZ chairman, Jacob Van der Eyk, said the new category was formed to get in touch with the broader storage professional marketplace.
Individual Membership costs $95 per year and will aim to attract storage consultants servicing users and SMB specialists.
"We're hoping it will also encourage them to take up industry leading education," he said. "These people make up the largest part of the industry and we're establishing committees where they can have a say in what we should be doing locally."
As a member, individuals will receive discounts on training, access to industry information and conferences.
"It adds credibility to their accreditations and they get to tap into the association and how it works," he said.
SNIA has also launched a website for its members, which provides access to blogs and LinkedIn social networking groups.
"There are also a lot of experts that would like to write white papers and make comments on industry trends and we're going to create a mechanism for them to publish and share that information," Van der Eyk said.
