IBM merges K-station with WebSphere
IBM, parent company of Lotus, is merging Lotus Development's K-station enterprise portal builder with its WebSphere portal Server.
IBM plans to release an interoperability bundle in October in the US that will link K-station and WebSphere portal Server. K-station is a key element in Lotus' Knowledge Discovery System, which also incorporates the Lotus Discovery Server, a tool intended to uncover links between people, content, and documents throughout an organisation.
Microsoft posts XQuery demo tool
Looking to further boost the standards credentials of its Web services, Microsoft has taken the wraps off a Web site that helps developers become familiar with XQuery and has posted an early-version tool for the forthcoming standard.
XQuery is a functional language for querying data sources that support XML and is currently a working draft at the standards body W3C (World Wide Web Consortium). With XQuery, software can execute full queries from data sources and receive XML results.
