Oracle hits accelerator on SMB strategy

Oracle has pumped up its SMB assault with a new Accelerate Program combining ERP applications into a consolidated stack.
The solution features Oracle E-Business Suite, PeopleSoft Enterprise, JD Edwards EnterpriseOne and Siebel applications. It is being launched in tandem with the vendor's channel and implementation partners: Jigsaw Services, Fusion5, Acumen Alliance and Ndevr. Oracle general manager of applications business unit, Scott Dawes, said it was looking to streamline ERP supply chain implementations to attract SMBs.
"With these business accelerators, you are effectively able to automate the setup of the system and then configure the business process," he said. "This reduces the costs and risks of implementation time. It's all about getting customers up faster on the solutions.
"The aim is to take our solution and make it more affordable for mid-market customers with about $100 million annual turnover."
Dawes said Oracle chose to work closely with select partners with specific industry skills. Prime verticals being targeted include industrial manufacturing, consumer goods, engineering and property management.
"For example, Jigsaw has invested time and energy into the consumer goods market. They are able to bring industry knowledge to the table and can relate to business processes and engineering," he said. "Down the line, we want our solutions to be able to satisfy the needs of specific verticals, as opposed to having generic financial systems."
Jigsaw Services has a strong JD Edwards business. CEO, Andrew McAdams, said customers had been demanding quicker ERP system rollouts.
"Customers don't want to wait 12 months for their ERP to go live: they now want to wait about three months so they can get on with their business and that's what the program is all about," he said.
McAdams estimated the Accelerator program would make up about 40 per cent of its business within two years. "We actually have a close relationship with IBM as well, so the Accelerator program feeds into that and we're going to host and manage the application for customers," he said.
