In recognition for his service to the IT industry, Australian Computer Society (ACS) executive director, John Ridge, was awarded Member of the Order of Australia in this year's Australia Day honours.
Since its establishment, the ACS has raised about $9 million in cash and sponsorships for scholarships and research. This has resulted in about 600 scholarships awarded to high achievers and disadvantaged people. "As a member of the ACS for many decades, John Ridge's commitment and drive has directly led to the development of many initiatives that serve the interest of all Australian ICT professionals and our broader industry," ACS Foundation president, Philip Argy, said. "One of his most visible and significant contributions to the industry was the establishment and ongoing development of the ACS Foundation.
"John was instrumental in devising and establishing the Foundation, which offers valuable programs and effectively supports students and graduates as they enter the workforce."
