ASG buy heats up its managed services play

ASG Group has acquired Sydney-based Oracle services outfit, Vindaloo Systems in an effort to strengthen its position in the market.
Financial details were not disclosed but the purchase was a mixture of cash and ASG shares. CEO, Geoff Lewis, said acquiring Vindaloo was part of ASG's strategy to further cement its position to be one of the largest managed services providers in Sydney. Vindaloo will operate under ASG's northern region.
"We've had good organic growth in Sydney to date but admired Vindaloo for a while," he said. "It gives us fully functional outsourcing capability in Oracle solutions as well as all kinds of desktop infrastructure and systems management."
Lewis hopes the acquisition will position ASG for bigger outsourcing opportunities.
"We will be the only organisation that will be able to offer complete end-to-end Oracle outsourcing services from the infrastructure right through to management," Lewis said. "It will also fit in with our strategy of shared services. We believe the government sector will be looking at those initiatives so this will position us very well."
All 45 Vindaloo staff would be kept on board, Lewis said, with integration expected to take 6-12 months.
