Arkeia Software this week rolled out an enhanced version of its backup software for Windows, NetWare, Linux, Unix and Macintosh networks within enterprise-sized businesses.
Arkeia Network Backup Version 6.0 adds support for Fibre Channel and IP storage-area networks (SAN), disk-to-disk-to-tape capability and integrated virtual tape library functionality.
The Media Server for SAN option allows LAN-free backup for SAN environments, thus easing network congestion. It allows direct SAN connectivity of servers, storage arrays and tape libraries.
The new software also includes the Remote Drive Management component for LANs and WANs that centralizes the management of remote servers and storage.
The Integrated Virtual Tape Library (VTL) option allows users to emulate the operations of a tape library using disk-based technology. The Disk-to-Disk-to-Tape capability is also an option that shortens the backup and restore times by saving data to disk rather than tape. With this option, data saved to disk can be saved to tape at the user's convenience.
Arkeia also has modules for Microsoft SQL Server, Exchange, Oracle, PostgresSQL and MySQL.
Arkeia Network Backup, the Media Server for SAN, Remote Drive Management and Integrated VTL are expected to be available this month. The Media Server for SAN starts at US$1,000 per SAN-attached server, Remote Drive Management starts at US$500 per managed drive, and the VTL option is free for up to 1TB of managed capacity and US$2,500 for 5TB. The Disk-to-Disk-to-Tape options is expected to be available by the end of the year, starting at US$1,000 for each backup server.
