Consumers get the Gizmo service

A new fleet of troubleshooters has launched to provide Sydney consumers IT services and support.
Gizmo will offer a range of eight services including network installations, system upgrades and diagnosis, security and backup. Known as Gizmopacks, the capped-rate services start at $120 but phone support is also available for $60.
"We want to teach them and solve their problems," CEO, Brett Chenoweth, said. "This is not just whipping in and sorting something out. It's about building a robust customer relationship.
"We recognised from our consumer research that we had to get the pricing structure right. The next aspect was designing the right range of services and packages."
Gizmo will initially focus on the Sydney market but would like to expand. Its phone support is already offered nationally.
"We plan to expand and are building up the infrastructure of our services nationally," he said. "But we want to make sure the business is robust and everything is working in Sydney before we roll out into other states."
The company has 12 technicians but Chenoweth wants to triple that number by end of year.
Earlier this month, a similar business known as Computer Troubleshooters told ARN it was looking to shift away from the consumer market in favour of more lucrative small business contracts.
While Gizmo was not aiming at this market, Chenoweth said it would look to service the SOHO community.
Chenoweth decided to start up a business with CFO, Danny Gilligan, about 18 months ago. He was most recently general manager of consumer business for Telecom New Zealand.
