Saratoga gets into PDFs

Software distributor, Saratoga, has become the first distributor of PDF products from SA-based Future Solutions Media (FSM).
Saratoga managing director, Ivar Stanelis, said the vendor's PDF Action range would provide resellers with a locally developed alternative to Acrobat PDF tools.
It will complement the distributor's existing portfolio of software titles for retail and business markets.
The PDF Action software comes in several versions, ranging from a reader and creation package to a document management package. The management tool is available as a single user tool through to a business suite. A key feature for corporate users is the database monitoring, searching and retrieval capabilities, which can manage up to 20,000 PDF documents.
Stanelis said the database could be linked directly to MYOB and other document systems that tied in with archiving, filing and data management.
FSM marketing consultant, Susan Cole, said it decided to launch a channel strategy to broaden its local market status. While experiencing direct sales success in the larger enterprise market, she claimed the Australian market had been hard to crack because it was very label-oriented.
"Everyone knows Acrobat and many think it's the only company out there that can supply a PDF product. We are Australian and can supply something that's just as good if not better," Cole said.
Saratoga's experience in software distribution, established reseller base and South Australian location made it the best option, she said.
"Finding the right distributor was hard. We needed a company that could understand the product and communicate it to resellers," Cole said. "With a larger group, we wouldn't get such personalised contact. We needed feet on the ground."
PDF Action reader has been downloaded by more than 30,000 users worldwide since its official launch in March, Cole said. Current clients include Mitsubishi Motors, South Australia Baptist Home for Aged Inc and the University of South Australia.
The software is available as a boxed product or via electronic download.
