Ferntree axes 100 staff

IT solutions provider Ferntree Computer has sacked 100 workers, 10 per cent of its staff, in an attempt to "get back on target".
Moira Edwards, corporate marketing manager at Ferntree, said that the sackings were part of the company's decision to sharpen its focus on core business areas. Edwards said that areas of customer service and support have not been affected by the move.
A recent report in ComputerWorld stated that Ferntree lost a $65 million outsourcing contract with the Department of Veterans' Affairs to rival ISSC. Edwards said that the company was forced to take action as a result of losing that business, but denied that the sackings were directly related.
