Westan broadens vendor stable

Hardware distributor, Westan, has bolstered its vendor ranks with the addition of Hush Technologies and Sanmina subsidiary, Newisys.
From next month, the Victorian distributor will be exclusively representing the Koenig Hush range of media centre PCs.
Sales manager, Kamil Aghtan, said this was its first serious entry into the media centre market.
"With Intel launching Viiv 1.5 shortly, we want to prepare a fairly comprehensive offering of products," he said. "This will be our flagship high-end product but we are also evaluating two other vendors as part of our strategy."
Aghtan said he would target high-end audio shops and installers as well as PC and AV resellers with the range. It would be bundled with external storage devices.
"The machine also meets the medical standards for electronic equipment so we will be targeting that vertical market as well," he said.
Westan is also adding to its storage stable with the Newisys NA1400 series. The distributor's product manager for servers and storage, Geoff Bull, said it nicely complemented its current range.
Westan will offer resellers 1TB and 2TB NAS-based models. Avnet Partner Solutions is also a distributor of Newisys but only carries servers.
"The storage arrays we do from Promise Technology at the moment starts from the 4TB range and they don't have a NAS offering," Bull said. "We wanted to provide storage solutions for entry-level SMB resellers and integrators. The NA1400 series fits the bill."
Local Newisys representative, David Wallis, said the vendor chose to partner with Westan because it had solid market coverage and would attract the right reseller base.
