TechPlus makes price play following Secure deal

TechPlus has scored a distribution deal with Secure Computing and will be charged with further penetrating the SMB space with its SafeWord authentication products.
The distributor's managing director, Paul Kern, said the partnership had been formed after Secure acquired CyberGuard in January. TechPlus had already been carrying CyberGuard VPN firewall appliances.
"We are building a stronger set of products in the enterprise space," Kern said. "Recent developments in the channel, like Dovetail being bought out by itX, have left a big gap in the value-add SMB market.
"There are not many small distributors left, they're all being swallowed up and that's leaving the way open for companies like us to bring on niche, next generation products."
Kern said this type of technology would provide an opportunity for smaller organisations to obtain high-end technology at a cheaper price.
"Token authentication products have always been considered very costly," he said. "It's our job to let SMB resellers know SafeWord isn't very expensive and customers in a lower price point can afford it." The company would be offering the range to its existing partner base but Kern said he would also look to add new resellers that were currently dealing with RSA or similar products and would like to offer a cheaper alternative.
