Anixter makes a security play

The local operation of US-based cable supplier, Anixter, is making a play for a wider share of the local enterprise market, with a particular eye on the burgeoning security arena.
Holding relationships with Allied Telesyn, Zultys, Axis and Nortel, the company will attempt to use its cabling credentials to get a foot in the door of installations.
Delivery would be implemented via the channel.
"It makes sense to add value in other areas - for example, with security products," Anixter enterprise program manager, Nelson Padilla, said.
Anixter had begun the push for what Padilla called recognition beyond being a cabling business, with new hires. Padilla himself joined the business in December with a mandate to pursue the enterprise market.
Meanwhile, national security product manager, Paul Newby, took up his newly created role in January. "Not even Chubb gets in at the grassroots level of deals," he said.
"Security isn't usually the first thought in a new network, so it will be our key differentiator to be talking about things like security at such an early stage."
Both Padilla and Newby said they were on the hunt for additional resellers to assist in the delivery of its wider enterprise focus.
Newby also suggested he was on the verge of signing two security vendors to sit alongside IP camera maker, Axis Communications, in his solution portfolio.
He said those signings would create a complete security over IP solution.
