Nvidia completes acquisition of ULi

Graphics chip vendor Nvidia said Tuesday it completed the acquisition of Taiwanese chipset developer ULi Electronics in a cash deal originally valued at US$52 million.
The company expects the deal to bolster its sales of computer chipsets, which are taking on a larger role inside computers. Many graphics functions have been embedded in chipsets over the years, and Nvidia as well as rival ATI Technologies have both worked to gain market share in the area. Chipsets normally act as traffic regulators for the flow of data between a microprocessor and other chips inside a computer, like memory and graphics.
Nvidia also expects to develop closer relationships with customers in Asia through the acquisition.
