Rainbird exits Volante, joins WebCentral

Another Volante staffer has jumped ship, hopping into the role of chief operating officer at Web applications hosting company, WebCentral. The news comes as Volante struggles to fend off a hostile takeover bid from Commander.
Dr Mark Rainbird took up the post of director of services at Volante in May last year. Prior to this, he was managing director of Queensland services giant, Citec Corporation, for three years, and also worked for Cap Gemini Ernst and Young and Mincom.
He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Chemical Physics from Griffith University.
According to a statement, Rainbird will be responsible for driving operational efficiencies and growth across all of WebCentral's customer segments.
Company CEO, Andrew Spicer, said Rainbird's experience in strategic management as well as delivery of managed services were key reasons behind his appointment.
Rainbird was unavailable to comment on his new posting.
His departure from Volante follows the resignation of its national infrastructure manager, Paul Harris, earlier this month to take up the Victoria manager's role for ComputerCorp. He had been with the national services integrator for two years.
