Seagate formalises partner program

Seagate has launched a new partner program complete with Web-based support facilities and marketing assistance for resellers.

Among the new tools available is a password-based Web portal featuring product and marketing information, online training and customer support. This will be complemented by a toll-free pre- and post-sales support line. The vendor has also created an online returns management system to speed up warranty returns, as well as a quarterly email newsletter to provide regular updates on its products and the storage market.

Seagate country manager, David Chan, said it would also be providing partners with access to its marketing tools in an attempt to increase branding awareness and reseller sales.

All Seagate partners who registered for the free program would be entitled to access the new online facilities. Those who hit certain sales targets would be upgraded to premier status and obtain additional benefits, he said. He did not specify the level of sales required in order to gain premier status.

For example, accredited resellers would have early access to Seagate's hard drive products via a first-to-market evaluation program.

Premier partners would be able to purchase the evaluation drive for 30 per cent below the distributor list price, he said.

Seagate would also be providing other margin incentives, including cash rebates on its portable storage and network storage product range. Chan said the vendor was hoping the new program would help to attract a broad range of new resellers to its stable.
